Media: Watercolour.

Workshop Description: Always wanted to learn to paint in watercolour but too intimidated to try this notoriously difficult medium? Started but failed miserably in pools of watery frustration? Everything turning to mud on you? Join me for a day of mastering the main watercolour techniques from the ground up. This is great for beginners and those who would like a refresher.

We will cover:

Brush technique

Wet in Wet

Wet On Dry

Dry Brush

Working with a bead for flat and gradated washes

Mixing colour in the palette and on the paper

Splattering paint

Charging paint onto the paper

Simple sky and clouds.

Max students will be 8 so that I have lots of time for each of you.

  Supply List

Here is the list but bring what you have and Scott will show you how to use them. Bring whatever colours of paint you have, tubes or pans. Bring whatever brushes you have.

Paper: The best quality 140lb 100% cotton paper you can afford or are comfortable buying, if you use cheap paper it will buckle when you add water and can break apart with vigorous brushwork or lifting with tissue. 11 x 15 inches is a good size to paint at, single sheets cut from a large full sheet (22 x 30) or from a pad or block. We will be taping single sheets to a board with masking tape even if you bring a glued block (all will be revealed why). Bring cheap paper for testing colour mixes if desired.

Sketchbook: For doing small preparatory thumbnails.

Masking tape: 1 inch general purpose scotch or similar brand.

Painting board: a solid lightweight flat surface that is big enough to tape your paper to. Not too big as you will need to be able to pick it up with one hand and tilt and turn. If you don't have this, one will be provided.

Riser: A thick book or block of wood approx. 2 inches thick (approx.) to rest your painting board at a slight angle.

Watercolour Palette: This can be plastic and inexpensive but does need to be large enough to have good mixing areas and enough wells for paint to be put into. Approx. 12 wells.

Paper towel: I prefer Bounty as it is stronger and more absorbent, but bring whatever you like. Bring 1 Roll.

Pencil and Eraser: HB, or B is fine. Bring a sharpener and an eraser.

    Water Spritzer Bottle

    About the Instructor, Scott Pleydell-Pearce

Scott has just been juried into the highly anticipated Golden exhibition at gallery 1710 and has taught for the guild on multiple occasions as well as teaching and doing demonstrations all around greater Vancouver. His paintings are with collectors around the world and with UKAMA gallery on Granville Island.

Scott has been an artist all his life and at 55 years old has packed in a lot of experience. His working career is in the world of animation, where he has worked as an animator, storyboard artist, character designer, art director and now works as a Director for TV series animation.

He started painting in watercolour 12 years ago as a means to get creative freedom separate from his career. Self-taught, Scott threw himself into the enormous challenge that is with learning watercolour. His style can be described as bold, energetic, and dynamic. He has the ability to draw and paint very accurately and also turn his hand to a looser style as well. He is inspired by many things in the world around him, figures, architecture, landscapes, seascapes and most of all, loves to capture colour and light.

Scott's enthusiasm for painting has led him to teaching others. He loves sharing his knowledge of how to work with watercolour. https://www.scottyppart.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.htm

Media: Simple techniques will be shown in watercolour. Other mediums welcome.

Workshop Description: We will start with an introduction to drawing figures in an impressionistic manner for painting as opposed to life drawing realistic figures. Then we will practice figure shapes and poses, these will generally be small figures to add to your street scenes or landscapes etc.

Simple techniques will be shown in watercolour.
